Here in Consett, we have a team of around 280 colleagues. We produce a range of chilled ready meals for some of the UK's leading retailers, including Co-op, Sainsbury's and Weight Watchers.
What you'll be doing
A position has become available for a Machine Operative (Retort Machine) to join the packing team, this is a great opportunity for a keen, motivated individual. In this role you will be responsible for setting up and monitoring the retort cycles for different meals, as well overseeing the general operation of the retort machine.
The post requires good organisation and communication skills, as the successful candidate will be required to liaise with other departments and be responsible for recording all necessary documentation. Good time keeping, and the ability to work well in a team but also as an individual is vital to the role. Duties include:
- Setting up and monitoring all retort cycles
- Loading and unloading meals
- Overseeing the general operation of the retort machine
- Recording all necessary documentation and ensuring set procedures and practices are always followed.

- Knowledge of the Packing department would be an advantage but not essential.
- Experience working within a food manufacturer preferred
- Good Literacy and Numeracy skills
- Problem solving skills
- Good communicator and ability to work in a team
- Allergen awareness
- L2 Food Safety is preferred but not essential
