Category Manager - Sainsbury

Job Introduction

Are you a highly experienced Category Manager who is comfortable with balancing time between two demanding and very different accounts? Are you able to deliver core category strategies on ranging, merchandising and execution in the context of a fast paced category from day one? 

Do to internal promotion we are recruiting for a Category Manager to work with two of our customer accounts - Waitrose and Sainsbury's.

This position will be based out of our Manufacturing site at Park Royal, North London.

This role offers a very competitive salary and a company car or car allowance. 

Role Responsibility

As Category Manager you will analyse and interpret category reports to generate actionable insight which will improve business and customer performance. You will utilise category insight from multiple data sources (internal company and retailer data, continuous data providers and broader market intelligence) to create strategies and plans which utilise the appropriate marketing mix to respond to the current category performance.

You will present category recommendations to category peers within the customer organisation to influence their decision-making to adopt the strategies & plans and follow the retailers’ cycles of the category marketing process to ensure that all plans have been correctly assessed, approved and implemented.

Other duties include managing the ongoing relationship with the customer to provide a single point of contact to ensure consistency of communication and working with commercial team to feed in category plans enabling joined up/aligned and meaningful customer plans to be created.

You will build extensive networks across merchandising, supply chain, marketing, store ops etc to speed decision-making/action implementation and input into process (from insight) from identifying opportunities through to developing shopper-led selling stories. 

The Ideal Candidate

You will be a well experienced Category Manager who is currently managing a portfolio of substantial multiple retail partners for a big fresh food supplier. Ideally you will have already worked with Sainsbury's under their new operating process.

You will need to be able to hit the ground running and understand the job at an operational level straightaway. You will have a strong character to manage the conflicting requirements of two sets of internal customers and you will feel comfortable operating at a distance from functional team and your line manager.

Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent
